A bear is the sensation of the Venice festival!
During the entire festival, the VIER PFOTEN bear will walk the streets of Venice to convince the tourists as well as the locals that wild animals do not belong in the circus. Loaded with information fliers, the cute bear will ask the persons hiding under the sensational carnival masks to sign the red cards. The signatures will have a “word” to say regarding the changing of current laws. Actually, precisely this is the final purpose of the campaign “Stop It! No wild animals in circuses”, initiated by VIER PFOTEN in 2009. The red cards can be also signed online, accessing stop-it.ro
Even though, according to the opinion of some people, it does not fit into the landscape of the famous Venice festival, the VIER PFOTEN bear was assaulted by other kinds of fairytale characters to take a photo with them.
Although, at first sight, the entire action makes us think of a circus show, the message of this campaign is a very serious one: VIER PFOTEN aims at informing the audience of the situation of the circus animals behind the show curtain, when they are not in the arena, in the spotlight.
Although at first sight the world of the circus seems a fascinating one, where animals do acrobatics, seeming happy and healthy, the reality is completely different, behind the curtain the image being a very dark one: most of the times, the animals are kept in cages that are too small, are forced to perform various actions which they normally would never do in their natural environment.
Acrobats, clowns and magicians delight the children and adults, and the public is fascinated by animals. For many of them, the lions, the elephants, the giraffes or the bears are just a part of a beautiful show, with many lights, where animals are happy. This is wrong. In reality, the use of wild animals in circuses means cruelty towards them.
